To Be Honest 3 of 3

A few years ago, I wrote a piece dedicated to the dangers of starting sentences with “to be honest,” and I still think it’s not the best choice.

However, there’s a point I’d like to emphasize, because it’s buried at the end of that post: Look out for judging others who start their points with “honestly,” “to be honest,” or “truthfully.” It’s likely not their intention to signal that they’re usually being dishonest. Possibly, they’ve felt unsafe voicing thoughts in the past, and it may be a moment of courage for them.

I stand by the alternative sentence starters I shared back then; I’ve seen them serve folks well over the years. You can find them here.

This one holds up.

Thanks for reading,
